History

Caturra on Grove, previously known as Café Caturra opened in 2007 as primarily a coffee shop and café. Caturra has evolved over the years; adding more offerings including full service, cocktails, entrée’s and brunch to what has always been some of the best coffee, soups and salads that Richmond has to offer.

Our evolution has been the result of a constant need to be creative and continuously improve. The result is the expanded “New American Cuisine” menu, the addition of a hand crafted bar, more tables and an always cozy, casual vibe. We take great pride in providing our customers with a comfortable place to get a great meal, have a cocktail, or just to meet a friend or colleague.
Caturra on Grove is run by a team of dedicated people that embody the evolution and the desire to provide the environment that keeps our customers coming back.

The crossroads of culture and food is a common ground that we can all share and experience together, regardless of our background, our ethnicity or our lifestyle. Our restaurant recognizes and embraces these cultural elements and ties them all together in a practical definition of who we are.

Philosophy

Our principal owner Rob Slotnick, a veteran in the food industry explains that Caturra on Grove is our interpretation of a New American Bistro. Honest food, a casual vibe, and a menu that is inspired from anything that has good flavor, is fresh, and tells a good story. Culture and food is a common ground that we can all share and experience together, regardless of our background, our ethnicity or our lifestyle. We try to tie all this together with food and drink inspired by many different cultural traditions.

Caturra has always offered high quality, fresh, regionally sourced food and fresh roasted coffee (roasted in the basement) but now with a bar we offer classic or creative cocktails, a global wine and beer list, live music and expanded hours. Regular customers come here in the mornings for coffee and to meet clients and then come back in the evenings with their spouse for a great glass of wine and a great unpretentious meal to end the day. Enjoy the neighborhood fee, grab a seat near the fire in the winter or on the patio in the summer.

Our Food

With over 30 years of food procurement experience, we have the ability to source some of the freshest, high quality ingredients that would normally be only available to the largest organizations.

Our chicken comes fresh from farms that raise non-gmo, vegetarian fed, no antibiotics ever, cage free birds. Our beef is always Certified Angus Beef which is the highest quality, above USDA Prime. The special ground beef blend comes fresh from NYC, where a 30 year family friend operates one of the few plants in the US that has achieved a SQF level 3 safety rating. Seafood is procured fresh from local purveyors that pick up daily at the coastal fish markets on the eastern seaboard. Produce is sourced fresh from family farms, and brought to use by local distributors. Long term personal relationships with the growers allow us access to items like Caulini from the Salinas Valley or fresh strawberries from Florida.
